The career center is a great place to find potential candidates, post your openings, search openings and subscribe to new posting notifications.

Career Tip of the Month:  For seasoned career searchers, continue to expand your network everyday...challenge yourself to meet at least two new people a week that could help you get closer to your dreams.  For those who are more on the shy end or uncomfortable with networking, break out of your shell and use informational interviews as an opportunity to explore new options and careers.  Some easy steps to solid career networking:

  • Map out the types of jobs/careers you are interested in and focus your search to five industries and/or organizations.
  • Carve out your personal network of friends, colleagues, family etc. and list out all the people you know from different parts of your life (community, school, work, family etc.).  Use the six degrees of separation theme and take a look at your connections and expand to see where and with whom they are connected that may align with your career goals.
  • Make a goal of conducting at least one, preferably multiple informational interviews per week to gain more information about your career fields of choice.  Successful professionals love to share information on how they achieved their success.  Invite contacts to coffee, lunch, or dinner...everyone needs to eat and these settings allow you to be in a casual setting to ask important questions.
  • Remember, it's always best to never immediately ask someone for a job.  You lose control immediately and don't gain value added information about career opportunities by doing this.
  • Be confident, dress professionally, be yourself and know the skills you can contribute to an organization.  Remember, we all have unique qualities and it's your job to be able to sell potential employers on "why should they hire you?"  Do your homework and be prepared.
